Fort on the Borderlands

The Fort on the Borderlands is a bastion of civilisation against the wilds where rumours claim a great many valuable treasures await. Adventurers congregate in the Fort's inn where they can kick back, take in an ale, trade war stories, and relax before gathering their parties to venture forth!

Author: James Goodman

Referees: David Dorward, Jo Gould, Ray Hodson, & Simon Clark

Players

This is a game for 18–24 players of any gender.

Premise

Fort on the Borderlands is a chance to enjoy old school Dungeons & Dragons in a freeform format. Create your own Fighter, Wizard, Cleric or Thief and join an adventuring party to investigate the local area. Follow up on rumours, fight kobolds, goblins and worse to gain prestige, renown and big piles of treasure.

We'll be ensuring an even split of character classes amongst the player base through pre-casting, but the details of your character are up to you. You're strongly encouraged to make up your own backstory and do some world-building in advance of the game.

Characters have simple in-game stats that increase with level (we have a bell to mark the occasions) to allow you over the course of the game to take on nastier challenges.

We are also looking for a few players to be Patrons of the Keep - they won't be out adventuring but will have their own goals and intrigues that they will need groups of adventurers to advance. Think of them as the Quest-Givers.

This game last ran at Kaleidoscopic Consequences where many of this run's GMs enjoyed playing it and now get the pleasure of introducing it to a new audience.

Costuming

Costuming is encouraged, but not required. Aim for classic fantasy adventurer flavoured by the archetype of your character. Expect significant amounts of leather, tabards for the more knightly of the characters, hoods for the roguish types, and so on.

If you wish to bring LARP-safe weapons as part of your costuming then please consult a GM before the day of the game. This is a non-contact game so be aware of your surroundings when gesturing with them. Please be careful when handling them and do not strike another player with them or display them outside of the play space.

Player preparation

Players will receive a questionnaire before the game which the referees will use to assign characters.

Content Notes

This game contains no content we think needs highlighting and likely to be troublesome.

Please email sekhmethodson@gmail.com or mention it in your casting form if you have any questions.

Safety rules

We will use Traffic Light and the The OK Check-In systems to ensure all players have a fun experience. These systems will be explained at the game.

See the note about weapons in the costuming section earlier in the page.

Jo Gould (she/her)

Ray is a long time roleplayer, GM, freeformer and writer. She loves to weave tales based around history and myth.

Having finished GMing the weekend game A West End Lullaby, she has a huge backlog of games in the planning phase… some say she may finish writing them all by the next millennium.

Simon Clark (he/him)
